A Celebration of Reading!

Read each selection & join staff members Wendy Wise or Michele Reinhart for a spirited discussion!

Last Wednesday of each month* at 7 pm in the Conference Room:

  • July 28: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain Apple pie, fireworks, burgers on the grill, parades, lightning bugs, and sweet corn …All figure into the definition of Summer in the United States.

During the endless days of Summer, past or present, all children become Tom Sawyer. They run barefoot down dusty streets; they steal cookies off a windowsill; they swim; they are habitually late for dinner and they undertake adventures that anyone over the age of 12 has no hope of understanding.
Mark Twain published The Adventures of Tom Sawyer when he was 41 years old, yet he managed to perfectly capture the bravado and impishness of Tom and his idyllic life along the Mississippi River. Whether he is tangling with Aunt Polly, wooing Becky, polling down the river with Huck, or showing up at his own funeral, the charm of Tom’s exploits and adventures endures even today.

So grab a glass of iced tea, settle into that hammock, and crack open a copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!

July is going to be a long, hot one. Can you think of a better way to spend it?

Please check for available copies of the book at the Circulation Desk and join us for our discussion on the July 28.
