The state budget's impact on libraries
First, thank you for your overwhelming support! Thousands of Ohioans wrote, called, and emailed their state legislators & Governor Ted Strickland about drastic cuts in library funding within the initial state budget proposal. Your voice was heard! The final state budget reflects your effect: The cut to the Public Library Fund was reduced from $227.3 million to $84 million.
Still, the remaining cuts will force us to make hard decisions. The 11% cut is substantial, especially coupled with 20% loss of state funding we are already experiencing due to the lagging economy. The cut reduces the percentage of the state's general revenue fund we receive in the future. (And we would see no money from the projected revenue of electronic slot machines.)
The Grandview Library (and libraries across the state) have already taken measures to reduce spending and increase revenue. Unfortunately, we must consider further options, including reducing hours & services.
We can't thank you enough for your support and the difference you've made! We will continue striving to provide the services you rely on and enjoy as we navigate these difficult times together.
Thank you for your support!
