Libraries encourage discussion of race with community reading of\u00a0Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You<\/em> by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi<\/h3>\n

The Grandview Heights Public Library is pleased to join eight other Central Ohio library systems in a partnership to promote a community reading of\u00a0Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You<\/a><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Ibram\u00a0X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds<\/a>\u00a0as part of a\u00a0Let\u2019s Talk About Race: One Book\u2014One Community<\/strong>\u00a0initiative.<\/p>\n

The community read kicks off on\u00a0Monday, November 9\u00a0and continues through\u00a0Sunday, January 24<\/strong>,\u00a0when the libraries will host author\u00a0Jason Reynolds<\/strong> in a virtual discussion of the book at 4 pm. Register for this free event<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0initiative\u00a0is designed to broaden and deepen the library\u2019s focus on literacy and cultivate dialogue around race and social justice based upon\u00a0a\u00a0shared reading experience for the\u00a0Central Ohio community.<\/p>\n

During this 11-week program, each library will work with local schools and other community partners to promote reading and discussion of the book.<\/p>\n

\nJason Reynolds is an American author who writes novels and poetry for young adult and middle-grade audiences, including\u00a0Ghost<\/em>, a National Book Award Finalist for Young People’s Literature. Born in Washington, DC,\u00a0and raised in neighboring Oxon Hill, Maryland, Reynolds found inspiration in rap to begin writing poetry at nine years old.<\/p>\n

\nIn addition to sharing resources,\u00a0Central Ohio libraries have a history of collaboration. A discussion that began in July 2020 of how to work together to increase community understanding and promote constructive dialogue on the topic of race in America resulted in this\u00a0One Book\u2014One Community<\/strong> program, which encourages friends, families and neighbors to share their personal experience while reading the same book.<\/p>\n
