You Made an Impact!

April 11, 2025

Thank you to everyone who contacted their Ohio House members last week—your calls, emails, and stories make a real impact!

While the House did make some adjustments, unfortunately, the Public Library Fund (PLF) in Sub. House Bill 96 is still $90.8 million less than the Governor’s recommended funding for public libraries over the biennium.

We remain committed to advocating for the restoration of the Public Library Fund (PLF) to 1.75% of the General Revenue Fund, as proposed in Governor DeWine’s budget.

The state budget is now in the hands of the Senate, with the process expected to be completed by the end of June.

We’ll keep you informed as things progress—and we may reach out for your support again during the Senate’s budget process.

Thank you for being a strong voice for your library and for libraries throughout Ohio!

Tell Your State Rep, “Don’t Cut Ohio’s Public Libraries!”

Tell Your State Rep,
“Don’t Cut Ohio’s Public Libraries!”

April 3, 2025

We need your help to protect the future of Ohio’s public libraries!

The Ohio House Finance Committee accepted an amendment this week that eliminates the Public Library Fund (PLF) and replaces it with a line-item appropriation, representing a $100 million cut to library funding over the next 2 years compared to Governor DeWine’s proposed budget.

This would be devastating, as libraries are already operating with the same state funding levels as 25 years ago. Ohio public libraries already saw a $27 million shortfall in state funding in 2024.

Libraries are vital to our communities. The PLF allows libraries to:

  • Offer engaging programs for children, teens, and adults.
  • Purchase books, e-books, and other essential materials.
  • Provide resources that many rely on for work, school, and research.
  • Bridge the digital divide by offering access to technology and training.
  • Serve as a community hub for civic engagement, public meetings, and cultural events.
  • Keep our doors open seven days a week to serve everyone.

Without this funding, these services will be severely impacted.

How can you help?

  • Please contact your state representative and the Speaker of the House TODAY and tell them why the library is important to you.
    1. Contact your state representative.
    2. Contact Speaker of the House Matt Huffman: rep78@ohiohouse.gov or (614) 466-6344.
  • Share how our library has impacted your life, supported your education, helped your family, or saved you money. Personal stories are powerful!

Your voice matters!

Thank you for advocating today to protect funding for the Grandview Heights Public Library and public libraries across the state.
