Grant expands exhibit project

The GHPL Mobile Exhibits project has been expanded to six Ohio libraries thanks to a library grant.

Traveling Museum Exhibits feature six different Natural Wonders themes focusing on biodiversity and science learning that rotate bimonthly among six participating Ohio libraries for one year, Spring 2019-2020.

The interactive, museum-quality exhibits are designed to inspire wonder and learning for all ages.

Each library’s all-in-one, interactive mobile kiosk displays changeable themed content that includes:

  • Artifacts and specimens
  • Engaging, educational visuals
  • Craft table with take-home family activity
  • Books for loaning

The project seeks to provide free access to unique, museum-quality, science-based learning for everyone in the community.

It also supports  Ohio’s Learning Standards from the  Ohio Department of Education for students pre-kindergarten through grade 12 by promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning. 

The project was created through a partnership between the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL) and The Ohio State University’s Museum of Biological Diversity (OSUMBD). Pilot exhibits at GHPL were funded with private money by the GHPL Foundation in 2018. The expansion to six Ohio libraries was funded through a federal Institute of Museum and Library Service (IMLS) LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio in 2019.

The participating libraries are part of the Central Library Consortium (CLC), 17 Central Ohio library systems sharing resources to offer 67 million items to their cardholders.
