Explore local history with Buckeye Connections, the newest History Walks tour presented by GHPL and the Grandview Heights Marble/Cliff Historical Society.
History Walks offers free, self-guided walking tours that make it easy to get outside, discover local stories, and see familiar places in a new way.
The 2.4-mile tour features 11 stops highlighting fascinating connections between the local community and The Ohio State University.
Along the way, discover stories such as:
- Tad Weed (GHS ‘51) kicked for Woody Hayes’ 1954 national championship Ohio State football team.
- John Hussey, an OSU horticulturist and artist, created the first model of Ohio Stadium.
- Woody Hayes’ 1987 funeral was held at First Community Church in Marble Cliff, where former President Richard Nixon delivered the eulogy.
- Perry Martter (GHS ‘18) was among the first Ohioans to compete on a U.S. Olympic wrestling team in 1924.
- Both Ohio Stadium and Our Lady of Victory Church in Marble Cliff were built using limestone from Marble Cliff Quarry.
- Hugh Hindman, a former Woody Hayes assistant, later made the decision while serving as Ohio State athletics director to fire the legendary coach.
