“Don’t Cut Ohio’s Public Libraries!”

We need your help to protect the future of Ohio’s public libraries!
The Ohio House Finance Committee accepted an amendment this week that eliminates the Public Library Fund (PLF) and replaces it with a line-item appropriation, representing a $100 million cut to library funding over the next 2 years compared to Governor DeWine’s proposed budget.
This would be devastating, as libraries are already operating with the same state funding levels as 25 years ago. Ohio public libraries already saw a $27 million shortfall in state funding in 2024.
Libraries are vital to our communities. The PLF allows libraries to:
- Offer engaging programs for children, teens, and adults.
- Purchase books, e-books, and other essential materials.
- Provide resources that many rely on for work, school, and research.
- Bridge the digital divide by offering access to technology and training.
- Serve as a community hub for civic engagement, public meetings, and cultural events.
- Keep our doors open seven days a week to serve everyone.
Without this funding, these services will be severely impacted.
