Holds ensure faster access to GHPL items

in

 

This year, three library systems—Columbus Metropolitan Library, Worthington Libraries, and Southwest Public Libraries—will combine resources with the Central Library Consortium (CLC), of which the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL) is a founding member and the Administering Library.

This partnership results in 11 library systems serving 1.4 million residents across six counties with nearly 1.2 million titles. This will double the number of titles all of these libraries currently offer.

How can GHPL patrons get faster access to GHPL items? Place holds! 

GHPL-owned materials go to GHPL patron requests before going to any other CLC library patron.

  • Your number in the hold queue (also the number you see when you access your account online) is based on all CLC patrons, but your place in the list doesn’t necessarily correlate with the time it will take to get your hold.
    • For instance, if you are the next GHPL patron on the hold list, but you are #12 in the entire hold queue, the next GHPL copy that becomes available will go to the first GHPL patron – you!  The next GHPL copy that becomes available will go to the next GHPL patron, even though that patron’s place in the complete hold queue might be #20.
  • The Grandview Library tries to offer multiple copies of items to fill GHPL patron holds. Once there are no more GHPL patron holds on a GHPL-owned title, that item is then released to fill holds at other CLC libraries.

Enjoy access to twice the materials thanks to more CLC library partners, but remember: Placing holds with your GHPL card ensures faster access to GHPL items!

New book drop

Our new book drop is now located closer to the rear parking lot drive—so you no longer have to get out of your vehicle!
Please promptly return materials, since the one-way drive is the only way for vehicles to enter and leave the parking lot.
We hope you enjoy this new convenience!
Don’t forget: Some items (vinyl records, some oversize books) cannot be returned in the book drop. 

Tri-Village Lions donate iPad Mini

The Tri-Village Noon Lions Club has donated an Apple iPad Mini to the Grandview Library to help the visually-impaired have access to e-books!

The Lions (whose traditional philanthropy is providing funding to vision causes) has also arranged training for Library staff on the visual-accessibility features unique to this Apple mini tablet computer. Plus, training materials in print and in Braille will be available for staff to give to visually-impaired patrons who require them.

Other e-readers (such as Barnes & Noble Nooks, Amazon Kindles and Sony eReaders) do not have navigation features that allow visually-impaired patrons to hear commands; the user must be able to see to navigate those e-devices.

Blind or otherwise visually-impaired Grandview Library patrons will have improved literacy opportunities by having access to an iPad Mini, thanks to this generous gift from the Tri-Village Noon Lions Club.

Thanks to the Lions for this gift and many previous gifts made to the Grandview Library, with special thanks to Lions Club member Jane Jarrow and help with training from The Ohio State University’s Director of Assistive Technology Nolan Crabb.

Library seeks Director

The Grandview Heights Public Library is seeking a Director.

After more than 30 years at the Library (including the past five years as Director), Mary Ludlum will retire at the end of August 2013.

The search for the next Director has begun; deadline for applications is March 15, 2013.

Get the exact same material you get in print. Some issues even include video, audio, and links! Magazine issues are not checked out, so they’re always available any time.

All you need is your Grandview Library card and an email address (to create an account on Zinio).

December 2012 was the final month for Checkout Champion, where patrons won free Donatos pizza checking out the most Grandview Library items.
