Bid notice for library repairs

PUBLIC NOTICE: ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS

Sealed bids will be received by the Fiscal Officer for the Grandview Heights Public Library, 1685 W. First Ave., Columbus, OH 43212, until 12 noon, local time, on April 9, 2019, for the fire alarm replacement project based upon documents prepared by Dynamix Engineering, Ltd. Estimated construction cost: $147,000. Bids will be opened and read immediately afterwards. Submit questions to Stuart Hill PE (shill@dynamix-ltd.com; 614.443.1178).

Contract documents may be purchased at cost plus shipping from Franklin Imaging, 500 Schrock Rd, Columbus OH 43229 (printroom@franklinimaging.com; 614.885.6894) and may be inspected during normal business hours at plan rooms in the area.

A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 12 pm on April 2, 2019, at the Library in Conference Room A. Ohio prevailing wage law applies to this project.

A Bid Guaranty in the form described in the Instructions to Bidders must be submitted with the bid. A bid may not be withdrawn within 60 days of the bid opening. The Library reserves the right to waive irregularities in bids, reject any or all bids, and conduct investigations into bidder responsibility.​

Try a new voting machine

The Franklin County Board of Elections will displaying & demonstrating their new voting equipment at the library on Tuesday, February 12, from 11 am-1 pm & 6-8 pm.

The new hybrid voting system will be used for the first time during the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 7, 2019.

The new system allows you to cast a paper ballot by one of two methods:

  1. On a touchscreen ballot marker or
  2. Traditional “fill in the oval” paper ballot.

After completion of one of these processes, voters will insert their paper ballot in a ballot counting device before leaving the voting location.

The Board of Elections will be taking the new voting machines throughout the county to libraries, festivals, community events, as well as government & civic meetings to educate registered voters on how the system works.

The most recent voting system served county voters for more than 12 years. The Board of Elections spent the last two years vetting the latest voting systems on the market.

Borrow a ukulele

Reserve a ukulele from the Grandview Heights Public Library!

Each ukulele comes with a case, accessories, and instructional materials.

Ukuleles and acoustic guitars are available and on display in Circulation on the second level of the library.

Acoustic guitars have been available to borrow from GHPL since 2015, thanks to a grant from the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Education Foundation.

The musical instrument lending program focuses on music education through hands-on collaborative learning for all ages.

Each instrument loans for 28 days with a GHPL card (3 renewals, if there are no other patron requests), are available only at GHPL (unavailable through our consortium), and must be returned to GHPL. Overdue fines are $1.25 per day.

GHPL’s 11th 5-star rating

Library _Journal_Star_2018_252Library Journal has named the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL) one of America’s best public libraries with a ranking of five stars for the 11th consecutive year.

This year, the journal’s Index of Public Library Service evaluated 7,361 U.S. public libraries across the country. 257 libraries received starred ratings, and 60 libraries received five-star ratings.

Ratings are based on 2016 data from the IMLS—circulation (physical and digital materials), visits, program attendance, and Internet use, each per capita.

In addition to GHPL, six other Central Ohio library systems received star ratings: Bexley Public Library, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Upper Arlington Public Library, Wagnalls Memorial Library, Westerville Public Library, and Worthington Libraries.

Ohio’s public libraries recently announced (video) a new venture with LinkedIn Learning that allows Ohioans free access to Lynda.com with a valid Ohio library card. The agreement is the first-of-its-kind in the nation between LinkedIn and a statewide system of public libraries.
