Community screening of local documentary

The public is invited to a free community screening of the WOSU Public Media documentary Columbus Neighborhoods: Tri-Village on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 7 pm, at the GHHS Auditorium.

The evening will include a Q&A with the producer.

The screening is presented by:

Some local residents and materials gathered from “Share-a-Story” Day, held at the Library in June 2014, are featured in the documentary.

WOSU Public Media, Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Historical Society, and the Grandview Library invited residents to share their stories, photographs, films, and artifacts. Many materials were digitally scanned for preservation. The event assisted WOSU Public Media’s research for the documentary while helping the Historical Society preserve and promote local history.

Materials can also be found on the Historical Society’s new Timeline, which is featured on an interactive touchscreen on the second floor of the Library.

The Library is proud to partner with these organizations to present this free event celebrating local history.

Automatic renewal

For your convenience, beginning May 1, 2015, many library materials will automatically renew at the end of their lending periods.

  • If you currently receive reminder notices by email or text message, the day before materials are due, you will be notified which materials were automatically renewed along with the new due dates.
  • As in the past, materials requested by other patrons or items that have been renewed the maximum number of times will not be eligible for automatic renewal.
  • Some materials that are not eligible for automatic renewal may be available for renewal online, by phone, or in person.
  • If you currently do not receive email reminder notifications, items will still automatically renew, but we would encourage you to change your account from phone notification to email so that you will know which materials have renewed and which have not.
  • Please keep in mind you will still need to pay close attention to your account to review your due dates.
  • Most libraries in the Central Library Consortium (CLC), of which GHPL is a Founding Member and Administering Library, also will offer automatic renewal, making many materials borrowed through these CLC libraries eligible for the service.
  • You may access your account online at www.ghpl.org, call the Library 614-486-2951, or call 1-877-772-6657 (1-877-77-BOOKS) to check your due dates.

The IRS tax filing deadline is Wednesday, April 15, 2015!

This year, most forms and instructions will be available only online.

Due to Congressional budget cuts, the IRS is printing only three forms (1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ) and is offering a very limited quantity of those forms to the Library.

The number of Ohio forms printed and made available to the Library also has been reduced.

Federal, state, and local forms & instructions are available online (see below for links). Taxpayers wishing to file paper returns can also contact the offices listed below.

  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
    • 1-800-829-1040 or 614-280-8691 (Columbus Office)
    • Get federal forms/instructions MAILED to you. (allow 7-15 days)
  • Ohio Department of Taxation
    • www.tax.ohio.gov
    • 1-800-282-1782 (forms request)
    • 1-800-282-1780 (for individual assistance)
  • Columbus Income Tax Division
  • Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) – Grandview
  • Village of Marble Cliff
  • Free Tax Preparation Assistance
    • Hands On Central Ohio
This local nonprofit organization connects people to community resources, including free tax preparation to qualifying individuals primarily through The Ohio Benefit Bank and AARP. Coffee v. Tea: Take the challenge

Something new is brewing! It’s the Winter Reading Challenge: Coffee v. Tea.

Your challenge—should you choose to accept it—is to check out and read as many books as possible January 5-February 15.

Your reward—if you’re lucky enough to win—will be a hot beverage from one of our favorite local companies. For every book (or audiobook) you read, you’ll be eligible to enter ourbiweekly prize drawings for $5 gift certificates from Stauf’s Coffee Roasters, Luck Bros’ Coffee House, Grandview Grind, or Cambridge Tea House.

All entries will eligible for a special grand prize: a $25 gift certificate from Chocolate Café.

Stop by the Library’s Reference Department to get your entry forms. You decide if you want to compete for coffee prizes or tea prizes. It’s coffee v. tea, and we’ll keep track of our community’s hot beverage preference.

Be sure to enter our registration raffle in January for an extra chance to win. Correctly guess the number of coffee beans in our display coffee pot or the number of tea bags in our display tea pot, and you’ll be eligible to win a bonus prize!

Questions? Call Reference at 614-481-3776.

NOTE:
These are the prizes for the Adult challenge. Youth Services has different prizes for their challenge.
